Hearing FAQs

Sometimes tinnitus clears up on its own without any intervention. If you recently were around loud noise, such as a concert, then you may experience temporary ringing in the ears that will go away after a day. If your tinnitus is more persistent and lasts for a few days without clearing up, then you should contact us.

Over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen can help with dizziness and symptoms of vertigo. Because our sense of balance comes from within the inner ear – inside the cochlea – our audiologists can help you.
If you are experiencing a clogged feeling in your ears, it could be due to impacted earwax. You should not attempt to remove wax on your own as you may risk damaging the delicate structures of your middle and inner ear. Instead, contact our office for an appointment. We can look inside your ears and determine if earwax is the culprit of a clogged feeling.
Hearing aids have an average lifespan of 3-7 years depending on the type of technology you have and how well you care for your devices. The better you take care of your hearing aids, and if you bring them in for regular maintenance checks, the longer your devices will last you.
It’s crucial to manage hearing loss at the first signs to prevent it from affecting your relationships, speech recognition, and cognitive health. The longer hearing loss is left untreated, the more difficult it can be to manage it with hearing aids. If you suspect you have hearing loss, we encourage you to schedule a hearing test as soon as possible so it doesn’t affect other important aspects of your life.
If you have a diagnosed hearing loss or you are over the age of 55, we recommend having your hearing checked once a year. If you are under the age of 55 or you don’t have a current hearing loss, you should have your hearing tested around every 5 years.
